The design aspects of the ancient Egyptian sleeping furniture

Abstract

It has been known a lot about woodwork in Egypt than anywhere else in the ancient world, sleeping furniture in particular was famous and varied in its forms and uses, beds developed from just a piece of furniture dedicated to sleeping and resting to other uses, including closeness to the gods.
     Beds first appeared in the homes of the upper echelons when the rest of the people slept on straw and mats, with the development of carpentry methods, beds spread widely in every home, and even accompanied them in their graves to use them in the life of the resurrection, Beds forms varied in terms of worldly use or funeral use. Carpentry reached its zenith in the new kingdom, where they gifted furniture, and several types of beds appeared, including ordinary, folding beds and funeral beds; the diversity of their decoration and cladding and the use of complicated connections were seen to serve the bed industry with its subtle details and uses that varied between sleeping and traveling. It also took into account the comfortable ergonomic proportions of the human being and their interest in the presence of the percentage of inclination in the bed, which became clear later on its importance for public health in many ways.
The research paper aims to show the design aspects and details of the development of sleeping furniture in the ancient Egypt from the headrest to the shape of the legs and their development across ages and the different types of beds in addition to the inclination of the bed and the reasons for its design with this inclination and the impact of that on public health.
