Abstract

Abstract:
Design as a word originally comes from the Latin "designare", which means to mark out, designate, denote. This means that communication is an integral part of design, and is achieved through signs that are conveyed and understood by both the designer and the user within a common cultural framework. Semiotics of interior design as a form of visual communication between space and its occupants can be achieved through color, texture, proportion, specific lines and shapes, or specific positioning between space elements, each of which has a symbolic meaning. Connotation. In this case,  design is a code. Each element it contains is a "sign" that represents an idea or concept, the message to be conveyed to the user.
In Islamic design, and interior design in particular, each element implies a cultural philosophy derived from the essence of the monotheism of the Islamic religion “Altawheed.” Each interior element, over time, communicates spiritually with the space occupants. The research problem then lies in the following question: to what extent does the interior designer understand the connotations of the design signs he is citing from any cultural heritage in order to enable more effective communication with the users? The aim of this research is therefore to examine how semiotics was present in Islamic interior design and how interior design elements (such as proportion, color, light, pattern and form) contributed to form the visual language for Islamic interiors; Expressing thoughts, beliefs and the philosophy of Islamic civilization. Through descriptive and analytical studies and literary reviews.
