Abstract
The new digital furniture designs that were produced through artificial intelligence technology - which is considered a new technology that has recently appeared in the world of design - and the quality of those designs with the speed of their production raised questions among thriving designers towards this new technology and the extent of its possibilities in design generally and furniture design particularly. As the technology was made available for non-designers and amatuers in general to produce various designs and ideas for furniture pieces. The problem of the research appeared by the need to know whether it is possible to rely on the designs produced by artificial intelligence technology or whether it is just a tool that helps the designer and provides him with a set of ideas that can enhance their creativity, and in order to know the extent of such a technology impact on the design process and design implementation. The research aim was to study the use of artificial intelligence in furniture design and the quality of the designs resulting from the technology and whether it can be relied on to replace the designer’s skills for the work environment in companies and factories. The research significance was to provide the necessary understanding of this technology aspects and its impact on furniture design practices in the future.
Therefore, the research relied on the descriptive analytical in order to study the aspects of this technology and its methodology by applying analysis of some
AI-designs, in addition to the results of the questionnaire for (100) furniture design specialists through their experiences of using AI- technology. The research provide recommendations to designers and academic institutes about the importance of adopting and working with AI-technology and benefiting from its capabilities and its impact on creativity and innovation in design.
