Abstract
Women with epilepsy face daily challenges in finding clothing that meets their comfort, functionality, and aesthetic needs. This study aims to identify their specific requirements and develop fashion solutions that ensure ease of movement, practicality, and modern aesthetics, ultimately enhancing their confidence and social inclusion. Fashion designers play a crucial role in creating clothing that accommodates the needs of epilepsy patients by ensuring comfort during seizures while avoiding potential triggers such as overly complex designs or restrictive garments. The study highlights the importance of revising fashion design curricula to address social and health-related challenges by equipping students with the skills necessary to create inclusive and adaptable designs. This approach fosters a deeper understanding of individual differences and the role of fashion in enhancing well-being and self-expression. The research was conducted with 12 third-year students in the Fashion and Textile Design Program, Faculty of Design and Creative Arts, during the 2023–2024 academic year. In-depth interviews were held with five women diagnosed with epilepsy (aged 25–45) from Cairo and Giza to assess their clothing preferences and challenges. The study focused on designing aesthetically pleasing yet comfortable clothing while increasing students' awareness of the importance of inclusive fashion. The findings emphasize the need for increased awareness among fashion designers regarding the clothing requirements of epilepsy patients and encourage the integration of advanced techniques to enhance fashion adaptability. The study underscores fashion’s role in fostering inclusivity, self-confidence, and improved quality of life.
